Before individual VCI packaging goes into series production, EXCOR® puts the packaging, including corrosion protection, under the microscope, testing it with the original content and under the specific climatic conditions it will encounter during transport worldwide. In our six in-house climatic chambers EXCOR® subjects test specimens to the climatic change test DIN EN IEC 60068-2-30. We are able to test complete pallets (up to 16 m³ in volume) under a wide variety of different conditions. To this end EXCOR® research uses the latest climate tables supplemented by our own humidity and temperature readings taken in containers and packaging, which have been standardised for many years. EXCOR® personnel evaluate these readings and can record them as per customers' interests.
Mechanical stresses: when the going gets tough
The mechanical durability of packaging is another factor influencing corrosion protection. Alongside regular material tests, at EXCOR® we subject our prototypes to simulations of the severe mechanical stresses exerted during shipment, including drop, impact and oscillation tests in conformity with domestic and international standards. EXCOR® performs these in cooperation with Fraunhofer AVV's Environmental Simulation Service Centre (Servicecenter Umweltsimulation - SCUS). The EXCOR® quality assurance system has been certified by German testing institute TÜV Süd and is regularly monitored. Furthermore, to ensure the scientific rigour of its materials testing activities and other research, in 1996 EXCOR® founded the company EXCOR Korrosionsforschung GmbH (EXCOR® Corrosion Research), which has its headquarters in Dresden.
